Images from The Liturgy at St Peter's






How interesting that the Pope is discalced for the Veneration of the Cross, I thought that was part of the Old Rite, but maybe I am wrong, does anyone know? Is he saying something?

I believe it is in the Ceremonial of Bishops.

It is in the Ceremonial of Bishops (no. 322). Peter Elliott also suggests that it should be considered an option for any priest in Ceremonies of the Liturgical Year (no. 239 fn. 27).

It's in Fortescue: the Celebrant, his Assistants and the Servers should all remove shoes for the Veneration if it is convenient to do so.

I have always done it - and encourage the Faithful to "creep to the Cross" unshod. It is surprising how many take up the (printed) suggestion.
